As much as we wish summer could continue, fall is just around the corner, which means a new slew of programming on the broadcast giants. FOX’s Gotham has been a steady performer in the Top 20 over the past month and has now moved up five places to #9 this week. A number of programs that ranked higher than Gotham are recently or soon to be off air, so the sky is the limit for this new program.
FX’s outlaw motorcycle drama, Sons of Anarchy, will be kicking off its seventh and final season in just a few weeks and mentions of the program were strong enough to vault it into the Top 20 where it settled at #12.
Kicking off at about the same time as Sons of Anarchy will be the season opener of the NFL. We last saw the NFL in the Top 20 when preseason started a few weeks back but with the regular season just a few weeks away it’s no wonder the most popular sport in America has come in at #17 this week.
Slowly slipping in the rankings is CBS’ Extant. With a timeslot change and the end of the season drawing close, the drama has fallen six places to #15 this week.
AMC’s Breaking Bad (#10) and ABC’s Modern Family (not ranked) had a strong showing at the 66th Annual Emmy Awards so look for mentions of both programs, along with the award show itself, to make a splash in next week’s TOMAmeter.
CBS lost two programs in the Top 20 but still had three more than any other network. AMC, FOX, FX and HBO each saw two of their programs make the cut but still not strong enough to best CBS and its five programs.
