AMC’s The Walking Dead enjoyed a weeklong stint as the most mentioned TV show on our TOMAmeter, but mentions of HBO’s Game of Thrones were strong enough to help the program reclaim the crown. The Walking Dead fell to #3 as Netflix’s Orange is the New Black stayed on respondents’ minds at #2.
New to the Top 5 and also representing the highest jump in the standings this week was CBS’ Extant which soared up an astounding nine spots to help round out the Top 5. Also represented in the Top 5 is last summer’s biggest hit, CBS’ Under the Dome, which sits at #4.
One of the steadiest performers in the TOMAmeter broke its streak with this week’s rankings. For the first time since August 2013, a run that stretched a remarkable 45 straight weeks, CBS’ The Big Bang Theory has fallen out of the Top 5. The dip of three places has landed the broadcast comedy at #8 this week.
For comparisons sake, AMC’s Breaking Bad never spent more than 13 straight weeks in the Top 5 but continues to remain in the Top 20 despite airing its final episode ten months ago. Multiple Emmy nominations could have helped mentions of Breaking Bad this past week as we see an increase of six places up to #11 in our rankings.
The summer of CBS continues! Seven of the Top 20 most mentioned programs have come from the Tiffany network while no other network saw more than two programs (AMC, FOX, HBO, NBC and TNT).
New programs in our Top 20: TNT’s Falling Skies (#19) and CBS’ CSI (#20).
No longer in our Top 20 this week: ABC’s Modern Family (previously #15) and A&E’s Duck Dynasty (previously #20).
