FOX’s Gotham moved down to #3 this week and now has some superhero competition in our rankings this week. CW’s new superhero spinoff, The Flash, bowed on television last week and also debuted at #4 in this week’s TOMAmeter. Joining The Flash is CW’s returning superhero show, Arrow, which debuted at #14.

The Flash wasn’t the only program having its premiere last week. FX’s popular anthology series, American Horror Story, is back for a trip to the freak show this season. Mentions of American Horror Story were so strong that it propelled the program ten spots up to #8.

Trending in the opposite direction but remaining in the Top 20 this week are NBC’s The Blacklist which is down four places to #9, and FOX’s Sleepy Hollow which fell five spots to #15.

After 51 consecutive weeks in the Top 20, HBO’s Game of Thrones missed the cut for the first time since last October. Mentions of the show may continue to be low with the addition of the new fall programs hitting the airwaves but expect the program, which spent thirteen weeks at #1 in 2014, to make its way back into our rankings sooner rather than later. Over the past two years, Game of Thrones has never spent more than three consecutive weeks outside of the Top 20!

ABC has now had two programs miss the Top 20 in the past two weeks and is now represented by four programs overall. Given the addition of CSI to tracking, CBS now takes over as the most represented network with five of the most mentioned programs in our TOMAmeter.

New programs in our Top 20: CW’s The Flash (#5) and Arrow (#14), CBS’ CSI (#18), NBC’s Law and Order (#19) and Netflix’s Orange is the New Black (#20).

No longer in our Top 20 this week: HBO’s Game of Thrones (previously #13), FOX’s Bones (previously #15), ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy (previously #17) and Forever (previously #20) and NFL/Superbowl (previously #17).

Each week, Ipsos MediaCT TV Dailies seeks to find out what television shows have people talking. Collecting over 5,000 unaided responses among persons ages 13-64, TV Dailies produces a top of mind awareness meter (TOMAmeter) that details the 20 most spontaneously mentioned television shows.

Here are your TOMAmeter results for October 6 - 12.
