ABC’s new summer program, The Whispers, made its series debut last week and shot all the way up to #5 in our TOMAmeter rankings. The last new program to debut at #5 was FOX’s Empire back in January of this year. Empire had a nice week in its own right as the program bounced back from the cusp of the Top 20 up nine places to #10.
Netflix’s Orange is the New Black returns for its third season this Friday and mentions of the program have moved it up two spots to #2, challenging HBO’s Game of Thrones for top billing. Orange is the New Black enjoyed two weeks at the top of the rankings last July but the finale of Game of Thrones this Sunday should prove to be strong enough to fight off the ladies of Litchfield Penitentiary for another week.
Will this be the season where A is truly revealed? ABC Family’s mysterious drama Pretty Little Liars is back for another thrilling season and back in fashion in our rankings. Pretty Little Liars checks in at #9 this week, which is the highest ranking the program received since it’s fifth season debuted back in June 2014.
After six weeks in or around the Top 10, ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy has dropped down eleven places to #19 this week. With the buzz surrounding a popular character’s demise in the rearview mirror and the program on hiatus, this could be the last appearance for Grey’s Anatomy until the fall season premieres.
With the addition of The Whispers, ABC gains sole possession of the most mentioned network in this week’s Top 20 rankings. With five programs making the cut this week, ABC was able to hold off CBS and FOX, which had four and three programs apiece.
